The UrbanPromise Elf Team
“I just love to see children smile,” stated a beaming Precious, one of our teaching assistants. “It’s the best feeling in the world.”
Precious has volunteered to serve on the “Elf Team” this Christmas season at UrbanPromise. The team—a group of UrbanPromise teachers and staff—is identifying the needs of students’ families over the next few weeks to ensure they all have a gift this Christmas.
Precious’ credo: Every UrbanPromise child will have something to smile about this season.
Why is Precious so passionate about the Elf Team? I am certain it is because she was homeless just five years ago. She and her two young sons had nowhere to live but on the streets of Camden.

But as a result of Diane Sawyer’s poignant 2007 ABC special, Waiting on the World to Change, the generosity of many donors, and Precious’ courage and tenacity, her life radically changed—for the better.
“Those were rough times,” understates Precious. “No smiles, lots of tears. And I dreaded Christmas.”
But now, Precious is about to celebrate her fourth year of employment at UrbanPromise’s CamdenForward School. Her boys are doing extremely well—academic honor roll! She is now computer literate, reading at advanced levels, and helps underachieving children with their homework. She loves serving others. Because of her own struggles, Precious empathizes with parents as well; they feel safe confiding in her.
And because of you, church members, and various retail outlets, UrbanPromise and the Elf Team are able to help many in our community. We will provide 1,000 gifts to families in need! Wow!
Our vans and buses are ready to roll. And our “elves” are ready to deliver. But wrapping gifts and fueling vehicles is expensive as you know. We need your help!
It costs just $5 to deliver one gift to a child in Camden and guarantee Precious sees them smile this holiday season. We can transport five gifts for only $25. Or, if you’re feeling especially generous this Christmas, help us deliver a sack full of gifts for $100—or a van load for $500!
