UrbanPromise Academy

UrbanPromise Academy is a private, Christian high school that fulfills the needs of students who have not met their academic potential in traditional school settings and often enter two to three grade levels below national standards.

Founded in 1997, the Academy offers Camden youth a unique schooling opportunity with a low teacher to student ratio, a family-style learning environment, an emphasis on community service, and experiential and expeditionary learning opportunities.

With college-preparatory classes, one-on-one mentoring, and a 100% graduation rate, the Academy prepares students for post-secondary education and currently sees 90% of graduates enter college. Universities and colleges former Academy students have attended include Eastern University, Rowan University, Rutgers University, Coppin State University, Virginia State University, Cabrini College, and Camden County College.

The Academy offers students the opportunity to learn outside the classroom through outdoor adventures and cross-cultural experiences. Such excursions introduce students to places they might otherwise never visit: to western Mexico to learn about the migration of the monarch butterfly, to the mountains of Maine to hike snow-covered peaks in the middle of winter, and to Assateague Island to spend a weekend camping on the beach surrounded by wild flora and fauna.

The Academy's rigorous and unique curriculum and the compassion and dedication of its teachers combine to create a learning environment that fosters student achievement.
